 Description[]

The Red Ruffed Lemur (also known as Red Vari) is one of two species in the genus Varecia, the ruffed lemurs; the other is the Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur. Like all lemurs, it is native to Madagascar. They are unique, medium-sized lemurs with a primate-like appearance. They exhibit thick, soft, reddish coat with a long, black and heavily furred tail. They have black faces and long snouts.

The Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur is classified as critically endangered. It is one of the largest lemurs and the second loudest primate after the Howler Monkey from central and South America.

These Lemurs are herbivores (frugivore, nectarivores). As much as 75% of their diet is made up of fruits. They also consume pollen, nectar, seeds, leaves and flowers.
