Description
The golden takin (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi) is an endangered goat-antelope, native to the Qin Mountains in China's southern Shaanxi province. They can be found in herds of up to 100 animals.
Body hairs of golden takin are white or off-white, but the hairs in neck and fore-chest are golden in adult males. The ears are short, narrow and pointed; the tail is short, triangular and naked on the underside.
Takins are herbivorous (folivorous) animals. They feed on a variety of leaves and grasses, as well as bamboo shoots and flowers. Salt is also an important part of their diets, and groups may stay at a mineral deposit for several days.
